Development Of The Wright Brothers Plane

The History And Development Of The Wright Brothers’ Plane

The Wright Brothers conducted a number of experiments in relation to the aviation industry.  One of the best known ones was their airplane, which they tested in several runs.  In 1903, the Wright Brothers were the first to have an airplane that successfully completed a flight.  Since then, other aircraft have modeled the success of the Wright Brothers’ plane.

The reason for the success of the Wright Brothers’ plane is because they used a certain technique and approach to get the aircraft to operate properly.  After the Wright Brothers tested their airplane, they modified their results to get it where they wanted it to be.

In 1901, the brothers had sufficient information to design an aircraft.  They were not in a rush to build it.  The Wright Brothers wanted to be meticulous about the information they had about the airplane.

In addition to that, there were lingering problems that they needed to get solutions to.  These problems came about as they were testing their gliders in 1901.  Since they already had a feel for the glider, they decided to stick with that and design another one in 1902.  It seemed to work out ok.

Designing the glider was really the introduction to their next project.  Now it was time for the big project—the airplane.  They knew that they would have to put in a lot of time and work to design this large aircraft.  In spite of that, they persevered and got the job done.  The Wright Brothers worked through the spring and summer months to get the airplane just the way they wanted it.

The historic day came on December 17, 1903.  Wilbur and Orville Wright had their first airplane with power.  At Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, the brothers successfully completed four flights, which put them in the record books.

There was an interesting feature to this event; the right wing of the Wright Brothers’ plane was longer than the left one.  This was done because the engine carried more weight on the pilot’s right side.  In addition to that, the wings had a drooping effect to prevent them from being damaged by the crosswinds.

The 1903 Flyer, as it was called, was only good for flights that were short and flew in a straight line.  To make the plane more marketable, the Wright Brothers had to show that the plane could execute turns and fly over more land than what they were used to.  The brothers decided to design two more planes in 1904-05.

The Wright Brothers had completed their accomplishments with their airplanes by 1905.   Using their third airplane, they were able to fly for a few minutes in the air.  During one flight, Wilbur Wright was able to fly for about 39 minutes.  During this time he was able to go around the area about 30 times for about 24 ½ miles.

After they completed that mission, the brothers decided to get a patent for their airplane and the rest, as they say, was history.
