The History Flight Timeline Of The Aircraft

Examining The History Flight Timeline Of The Aircraft

Along with the Wright Brothers’ success in the aviation industry, there were others who made strides as well.  In the history of air flight, Sir George Cayley was successful in the area of aeronautical engineering.  In addition to that, Otto Lilienthal was able to provoke people to get involved in aeronautical experiments.  By the 20th century, aeronautical engineering had ascended to a higher level.

Here is a history flight timeline of some of the accomplishments and inventions in the aviation industry:

1901 – An aircraft that operated with gasoline was built by Samuel Pierpont Langley.  He called his creation an “Aerodrome”.  It was known to be the first aircraft that used an internal combustion engine.  Around 1896, Langley also used aircraft that was propelled by steam.  The measurements of the flights were sometimes about a half a mile or more.

1903 – The Wright Brothers (Wilbur and Orville) were the first ones to complete a flight with their aircraft.  In fact, they completed four flights within the same day.  These flights originated from North Carolina.  This is the same year in which they were successful in launching the Wright Flyer.

1918 – In order to implement faster service delivering mail across the country, the U.S. Postal Service decided to use airmail service.  The service started in Washington, D.C. onward to other east coast destinations.  Not long after that, mail service started in San Francisco to New York City.  That flight lasted one day and almost nine and a half hours.  This was faster having the mail delivered on the train.

1933 – Boeing brought out a commercial aircraft, the 247.  This aircraft seated 10 passengers and it was the first commercial aircraft available for use.  This aircraft had no problems with takeoff and it was equipped with retractable landing gear.  This was implemented so that the plane wouldn’t scratch the ground while moving.

1950s – Boeing makes the rounds again with the B-52 bomber.  This aircraft was equipped with turbojet engines and weighs about 500,000 pounds.

1969 – The Boeing 747 was a commercial aircraft that was powered by a turbofan.  This aircraft was proven to be one of the best models in the Boeing aircraft system.

1976 – In Europe, the Concorde SST was introduced.  It made its debut in Great Britain and France.  This aircraft can hold 100 passengers and can move at twice the speed of sound.  If taking this aircraft from London to New York, the time traveled would be about three and a half hours.  These flights are usually reserved for those who can afford to pay for them.  There are people out there that are willing to pay for convenience.

1990s – The B-2 bomber was manufactured.  This aircraft cannot be easily detected because it is not made out of metal.

1995 – The history of flight also included aircraft that was made by CAD (computer aided design).  Again, Boeing was the recipient of this engineering project.  The 777, which was manufactured as a twin engine aircraft, was the first to be designed with CAD and engineering specifications.

1996 – A research program that used American and Russian aerospace groups, along with NASA, created an airliner made for the 21st century.  This aircraft was a supersonic jet.  Eventually it was converted into a research laboratory.

These are just some of the things in the history flight timeline that were notable to the aviation industry.  Along with the Wright Brothers, many of these accomplishments stand out in the record books as notable achievements in the history of air flight.
